A twice monthly newsletter by Ryan Jafar Artes
Dear Friends,
We are almost halfway through August and I am still processing everything that happened at the first annual BIPOC Adoptee Conference in July. The event was truly epic! I have been taking my time recording and reflecting on my time in Portland, OR, and will be sharing my thoughts in a future newsletter and elsewhere.
I have hosted two pop-up sessions of The Adoptee Open Mic, for the sake of gathering to process our time at the conference, and continuing to share our stories with each other. I am constantly blown away by the generosity of the adoptee community, and our willingness to provide each other with care, support, and understanding. As a lifelong activist, I believe other communities have a lot to learn from examining adoptees models of organizing, which are incredibly powerful and robust, infused with so much safety, and a willingness to work towards more safety.
I have recorded my first two podcasts since returning from the conference! I will share them with you when they are ready, and in the meantime here is my first recorded author interview for you to revisit. Stay tuned to my social media @ryanartespoet and @theadopteeopenmic on Instagram and here in this newsletter for the announcement!
I always appreciate your responses, no matter how long or brief! I will always reply, and while I will always take my time in doing so, you will always hear back from me. Thank you for your attention.
Love, Ryan <3
