A twice-monthly newsletter by Ryan Jafar Artes
Please consider joining me for my inaugural offering of Holiday Letter Writing as a Spiritual Practice. You are not required to send your holiday letter to anyone, and can write for the sake of reflecting your year back to yourself! See more details below.
Dear Friends,
I am behind with my newsletter because I have been writing. Any kind of writing propels me into my own work. I start drafting, for example, this newsletter, or social media posts, or emails, or applications, and find myself writing a poem instead.
Since I stopped writing poems, I have written well over 100 poems. I stopped writing poems this spring to focus on other aspects of writing. This summer I wrote 40 poems, and then during the first month of fall alone I wrote 60 poems, and am on track to easily double that number.
Writing is such an answer for me, always. Time and again, I learn that I have to write in order to stop writing. This has the effect of propelling me back into my writing.
I am writing myself into a new life. I am almost t/here. I need your help to get to where I am going.
Here are some ways you can support me:
Donate to my GoFundMe campaign. My dear friend Katelyn Rivas is helping me raise funds to support me and my event. Please consider donating if you can afford to do so.
Sign up for Holiday Letter Writing as a Spiritual Practice. I have updated the schedule for this class, which now starts on Sunday December 8 at 4pm EST. Please check out the updated Eventbrite page for more details, and email me to sign up.
Engage, interact, and respond directly to me. I hope this email provides a little light, and a feeling of connection in your inbox. I would love to hear from you.
Love, Ryan <3
I loved hosting The Adoptee Open Mic @ rainboWEB with my dear friend wren taube! The afternoon was such an incredible testament to our friendship and activism. Here is a lovely shot of us taken by Dorian Holliday, who is a powerful community member and activist himself.
